After Careful Consideration, Players Choose "Creature"
Associated Press - After weeks of animated discussion, well-reasoned debate, and thoughtful deliberation, the readers of MagicTheGathering.com have chosen "Creature" as the card type for the innovative You Make the Card contest, it was announced Wednesday. The selection has been praised as a resounding display of the great creativity and ingenuity of the world's Magic players, who have already determined the card's color to be Green.
"It's a creature! It's a creature!" Magic player Mikey Dreyling told reporters following the announcement. Dreyling, 11, has been a major advocate of "Green Creature" in the voting thus far. "It's going to be a big one! 8/8 probably! Maybe even 9/9!"
Several players have already expressed excitement over the fledgling card's potential in constructed. "Hooray!" shouted 9-year-old Michigan player Bernie Hildebrandt. "I'm putting it right into my Green Fatty Stomp deck. This is going to be awesome!"
Hildebrandt also expressed impatience at the delay before the card's actual release, tentatively scheduled for the block after Onslaught. "Why can't I have it now?" Hildebrandt asked reporters, while bouncing up and down on his chair. "If I get it by Saturday, I can play with it in [Hildebrandt's friend] Tommy's multiplayer tournament. I get to play with my Green deck all day, and then we're going to have a pizza party. Pizza party! Pizza party!"
While the overall response among voters has been positive, not all were as enthusiastic at the news. "I don't get it. Where are my card suggestions?" asked confused Colorado native Paul Tenorman. The 10-year-old Tenorman has repeatedly sent his own card ideas to various branches of Wizards and the DCI throughout the contest, despite specific instructions to the contrary. "I want to vote for my SquirrelMaster Dragonbeast. It's one of the biggest fatties ever, and it makes a 7/7 token every turn. It's going to be so cool!"
Despite the overwhelming response to the contest, reaction from Wizards of the Coast has been mixed. "It's going to be a green creature, how original," said an R&D member who wished to remain anonymous, noting that "Creature" beat out the second-place "Enchantment" by nearly 4,000 votes. "Maybe I don't get paid enough for what I do after all."
