My 8th Edition Opinion

By: Jack Skirianos - January 20, 2003

First off, I HATE IT! Look for yourself.

Layout:
It Looks so dumb. It doesn't look like Magic it looks like Star Wars or Legend of the Five Rings. As Mike says it looks like Windows XP. It is sooooo retarded. I don't get what they were thinking, seriously

Artifacts:
Um what the f? They changed the color of artifacts from brown which made perfect sense to a grayish white that they say is " a combination of sand to steel" why did they do this you ask? because artifacts looks too much like land........
Awesome...now they look like white cards.

Borders:
There are none. That is garbage thats the worse mistake they ever made. I know people that go crazy for black border over white border. People would not use perfectly good white bordered cards just cos they wanted black bordered ones that do the same thing effectively paying for the same card twice.

WOTC Reasoning:
I am not making this up it is a direct quote from the article I linked above.

"The story goes like this: Around the time of Invasion's development, the Magic Brand team decided that it was time for Magic to get its face-lift. The wish list of proposed tweaks to the design had gotten large indeed, and the catalyst to make those changes happen was foil cards. You see, Magic is the original trading card game. It was the first game to feature foil cards. The problem was that the design of the card face was made before foils were even a consideration. Later games were able to design their cards so that foils would look really cool, while Magic was sticking with the tried and true. The upshot is their foils look better. This would not stand."

WHAT THE HELL!?!?!?! They ruined my favorite game because Magic foils don't look as cool as other games foils (which by the way isn't true) That is so dumb, I'm sorry but WOTC has made mistakes in banning/restricting cards, new mechanics, reprinting cards, and changing tournament formats but this crosses the line. This really makes me mad.

Conclusion:
I don't know the opinion of other magic players out there but I think this is a seriously bad idea. I mean they even said it themselves why would you tamper with something that worked so well for 10 years? I Thought bringing back old mechanics and making hilariously powerful creatures was going to be the downfall of magic but I stand corrected, 8th edition layout will be. I can see it in 3 years I'm gonna play my Beta Hypnotic Specter and some 12 year old is going to say "Thats not a magic card, what is that? how come it looks so old is that a different game?? JUDGE!"

Judge is right. I wanna bring Wizards of the Coast to court or at least a therapist because they are in danger of killing themselves. Ask Mark Rosewater he has his own therapist. He is the one that convinced him that damage from Kamahl Pit Fighter's ability is the same as combat damage.
