Ancestral Recall Good, Sideboard Reports

By: Tree - May 23, 2003

In an announcement that shocked the world Magic community, Sideboard Online writer Omeed Dariani revealed Tuesday that Alpha rare Ancestral Recall is good.

Citing its ability to let you draw three cards at instant speed and its mana cost of U, Dariani proved that the previously-ignored card was good, and in fact better than modern card-advantage spells such as Inspiration.

Not all were convinced, however. Atlanta Friday Night Magic regular Mikey Johnston said, "Three cards? With Opportunity I can get four cards!" He added, "I haven't even heard of Ancrestal Recoil anyway."

Johnston's friend, Kody James, added, "I've heard there's a card that'll even let you draw as many cards as you want! Stroke something. Let's see your three cards beat THAT."

Magic creator Richard Garfield, however, affirmed the journalistic bombshell. "Yes, Ancestral is a good card," he said. "We made a mistake with that one in Alpha design, but we hoped nobody would notice." He added, "I guess keeping the secret for 10 years is better than we could have hoped for."

The card, which last saw print in Unlimited, jumped from $0.75 to $225 on the secondary market immediately following the announcement.
