Global Warming Threatens Coldsnap
Washington, D.C. - In an unprecedented partnership between government activists and Wizards of the Coast (a division of Hasbro, Inc.) Al Gore has decided to use the collectable card game Magic: The GatheringTM to help better explain the threat of Global Warming.
"It is my position that if we can educate the public about the dangers of global warming through a fun and popular game, such as Magic, we will better prepare our future leaders and consumers for the consequences of this Global Emergency."

In the latest Magic expansion, entitled Coldsnap, mages battle to control lands and use the renewable resources available from those lands, called "Mana" to circumvent a planetary disaster and stop their opponents from reducing their life totals to zero. One of the overriding themes of Coldsnap is to control multiple snow-covered lands and tap into their potentials, while keeping opponents from releasing an evil mage named Merit Lage from her icy prison.
"These game makers have put forth a strong case for encouraging others to maintain our nation's glaciers, protect the ice caps on our planet's mountains, and even support sustainable wetlands and protected natural forests. Never have I heard so much ire as I have from Magic players who complained constantly whenever the lands they controlled were destroyed. These are true conservationists!"
Magic has also taken steps to help their customers enjoy the game without using paper products by marketing an online version and by encouraging fans of the game to circulate rumors that each significant rules change will "ruin the game" for those long-standing gamers who are unwilling to move to the paperless online product.
As a sign of endorsement of Magic's stance against global warning, there is a rumor that Gore will lend his name and likeness to a class of beast creatures, to be known as "Goretusk." No word on whether his wife, Tipper, will also be used in the artwork, though their beastly nature would tend to indicate a likelihood of the use of her image.
