Ask Wizards

Last week's poll indicated that there is demand for us to answer your dumbass questions, and as a result, we'll be doing Ask Wizards: Rejected a little more frequently. Here's another taste of some of the dumbass questions people actually send us.

Do you have a dumbass question about Magic: The Gathering or the Evil Empire? Send it along with your full name and location, to ask_wizards@chriscade.cc. We'll post new dumbass questions and answers periodically.

Q: "If I Mirari a Coalition Victory, do I win the next game too?"
-- Barry McKaukener, Sumwarin, AL

A: From Paul Barclay, TCG Rules Manager
"Unfortunately not, dumbass. With the exception of the Unglued set (which is not tournament legal), no Magic cards affect games to be played in the future.

Dumbass.

Q: "In DCI sanctioned play, is it actually legal to 'mise?' I mean this in the same term that I would mean by ripping, topdecking, or 'Pulling a Budde.'"
-- Todd Mize, Billings, MO

A: From Chris Zantides, DCI Policy Manager
"It is technically legal to 'mise' at this time. However, we are investigating recent events surrounding Budde's very suspicious string of recent successes. It appears that he may have been abusing his priviledge to mise, possibly to the extent that it gives him an unfair advantage over the rest of the world. The outcome of that investigation will determine whether or not we will allow we will allow mising in future events. For now, my advice is to serve up the savage tings and mise while you can!"

Q: "I'm a lamer and am having trouble finding friends to play with... Could you help?"
-- John Steffen, Pioria, Illinois

A: From Chris Galvin, Director of Organized Play
"You're in luck! A couple years ago we created the 'Friday Night Magic' program. Basically how it works is this: In exchange for giving up your social life, we provide bad players the opportunity to get beaten by good players (aka "cheaters") in a friendly tournament environment. The good players win premium foil cards, while the bad players trade their arm and leg to get those cards from the good players."

Q: "Wizards...why did you hire MaRo? What kind of thought process went into this? Was it sort of like designing Tahngarth's Glare (it looks funny but has few uses) or was it like shooting yourself in the head right before the cops caught you?"
-- Jeremy Faulkner, Oneonta, AL

A: From Bill Rose, head of Research and Development
"Surprisingly, you're not the first to ask this. In short, it was less like shooting ourselves in the head and more like designing Tahngarth's Glare. In fact, it's funny that you should mention the Glare because we added Rosewater to the R&D staff to help fill our quota for bad cards and vanilla cards. Since then, we've never regretted that decision and feel he was the perfect person for the job. Who can argue with brilliant works like Eager Cadet and Vizzardrix?"
