Gateway. Yes, I'd usually call them shit but they've actually come up with something that catches my eye.. let me know if you agree I should buy it.
Profile 4 from Gateway (http://www.gateway.com/home/prod/hm_profile4xl_proddetail.shtml)
I put it at Pentium 4, 200 GB, DVD-R/CD-RW.. it comes out to like $2,200 for me. It's right now what I'm considering getting.
If you're going to play computer games, get a better video card. A 32mb GeForce 2 can't play most things made in the last year or so, and won't work with most "yet to be released" games either.

LOL, everyone so far has picked that up. Even my dad. What I'm planning on is calling Gateway because they won't let you get a better card on the site.

Good luck with your comp man!

Well, Gateway used to make good stuff, even though they've kind of gone down the crapper lately.
I'd be real leery of that video card, though - since it says it's integrated, and given the design of that case, I don't know if you can get a better one. If you can, that looks like it might be a pretty sweet comp, though!

Yeah, the missus had an integrated comp... They're hell to fix/upgrade even thought they're sometimes cheaper to buy.

500 dollars more than it needs to be. the video card sucks, so if you want to play vice city when it comes out may 15, youre buyin a new 200-350 dollar card. integrated audio sucks dong, mobo co's should not be making audio chips.
i could build better on pricewatch for 11-1200, but since people are afraid to push a clamp down and snap a little square piece of plastic/metal in these days, pre-builts are easier to buy. i prefer the extra 800 bucks (in this case)

Integrated Video can be a bitch, but it can be overcome. If you are comfortable rooting around the inside of a PC, then you should ask some pointed questions of one of Gateway's techs. See if you can get more detailed specs of the mainboard, especially number of slots. You should be able to reconstruct the macine in your head and then figure out what kind of flexibility you have.
A lot of integrated components can be switched off in the BIOS. Just be sure to tell Windows to remove the device first. It will make your life easier.
I'm assuming gaming is your priority with this PC. I've already forgotten the specs for the audio. How important is sound to you?
Unless you are a fan of AOL, I'd see if they would be willing to drop that bit from the package. Do you really need a year's worth of AOL? I know I wouldn't.
I also wouldn't pay two grand for a computer these days, but it's your money.

Dude! Get a Dell!
No, seriously. You can do better (sound and video) than that.
Do you REALLY need a 17" Flat Panel monitor? Wireless keyboard? Wireless mouse? Flat panel is cool, but it's just so expensive, and the wireless shit isn't all that reliable. C'mon, would you like to be fragged just because your computer lost sight of your keyboard?

Pricewatch is t3h r0x0rz. Or something.
I bought a Dell almost a year ago (p4 1.5ghz)... and am upgrading processor (Athlon XP 2700 or so), mobo (havn't decided yet--if you know a good one, pm me or something), gfx (almost have enough $ for a GeForceFX 5800 Ultra :D ), and ram (512 mb of DDR 3200). Oh yeah, I'll be getting a liquid cooling system eventually, too.
Seriously, there's a lot besides the processor that contributes to the speed of a machine. That's why Alienware computers cost that much more than Dells.
(Alienware, btw, is probably your best bet if you're looking for a pre-built high quality comp)

Dude... I TOTALLY second Spiffy here on the Wireless slagging. Why fling cash at something that's all show and far less reliable. The idea here is to pay MORE for LESS - not the other way around.

Don't you mean that the idea is to pay LESS (money) to get MORE (Stuff)?

Wha...?
Anyway, LCD monitors are overrated. They're more expensive. They have glare issues. You can't truly switch resolution (many offer support but then you don't get evenly sized pixels; pixels on a LCD display are actually hardwired to the screen). Their color is inaccurate.
CRTs beat LCDs in everything except volume.
Oh, and real sound system > PC speakers. Even Klipsch ProMedia.

dell! black computer is sweet!
LCD > CRT
If you spend several hours a day in front of your computer and don't want your eyes to burn out of their sockets, the LCD is for you.
Profile = overpriced
You can get a similar (or better) desktop system from Dell with 17" (or 18") lcd monitor for half the price of the profile.
