Herd of Elephants Thinning Rapidly

By: Anonymous - November 28, 2001

Dominaria -- The Dominaria Environmental Protection Agency began actions today against WOTC for an unforeseen result of the Introduction of the Odessey set; a rapid decrease in the Elephant Token population. Apparently, the Call of the Herd spell is so popular with mages that the Elephant Tokens called are reaching critically low numbers. The DEPA spokeman has this to say:

"The Call of the Herd spell is presenting a grave threat to our ecosystem. Previously, nature could handle the effects of overly popular summoning spells. Morphlings and Serra Angels were rarely killed when summoned, and nobody really missed Juzam Djinns or Rebels if they didn't make it back. Our previous biggest concern was for the Birds of Paradise, but they seem to be hanging on alright without intervention. But Call of the Herd is a Flashback spell, meaning twice as many are summoned as before. In addition, mages are quite frankly reckless with their newly summoned Tokens. I hear reports from the field that mages think getting both their elephants burned by different spells is 'some good'. Well, I've got news for you, it's not 'some good' to ecologists!"

The DEPA also has Squirrel Tokens and Wurm Tokens under observation, but so far were not overly concerned. No WOTC spokesperson could be reached for comment.
