Mike Long Admits “My Story” Complete Lie
Barbourville, VA -- Mike Long, Pro Tour Paris Champion and perennial US Nationals top finisher, admitted today that his ongoing online article, “My Story”, is “complete bullshit.” The article, which focuses on Long’s personal experiences as a player, and tribulations with an uncaring DCI, contains many private details about his illustrious career.
Several readers were touched when, painting himself in the most realistic light possible, Long recalled missing his first Pro Tour, after he had promised several tikes that he would make it to one of his store’s tournaments: “I missed Pro Tour-Rome because it conflicted with the beginning of one of our Elementary Magic League seasons. Little Tim need a new leg, and I had to sell my plane ticket in order to purchase the wood to carve it for him.”
However, after a seventh round ejection from Grand Prix Atlanta for cheating, the heat was on Long to clarify the several instances in “My Story” in which he maintains his innocence as a player. Long responded: “Well, I won’t say that the things I said were entirely untrue, just that My Story might be best categorized under ‘fiction’, or ‘fantasy.’”
In reference to his comment about his ejection from the first Masters tournament, when Long wrote, “I hadn't cheated then, just as I had not two years before,”, he clarified “What I had meant to write was ‘I cheated then, as I had at every other tournament ever.’ I mean, other than that it’s true.”
Surprised at public response, Long stated: “I honestly thought everyone knew,” he continued, “I mean, for God’s sake, they caught me with a bloom in my lap. It’s not rocket science here people.”
Sideboard readers reactions are varied. Some are angry, but many are simply bewildered, asking where the supposedly genuine personal anecdotes came from. “Actually,” said Long, “most of it was copied from the episode of Wonder Years where Winnie gets a new boyfriend.”
