Pro Tour Player Attends PTQ: "The Horror, The Horror"
Vancouver, Canada -- Pro Tour Player Gab Tsang, due to an unexpected day off, and nothing else to do, attended a Detroit Pro Tour Qualifer. "I went to see friends," uttered Tsang, "I never expected what was there."
The qualifier had 47 players, cutting to top 8 after round 5. Head Judge, a Level II, Sheldon Macphee, declared both the quantity and quality of the players in attendance "well above average" but Tsang was not as pleased with what he saw.
"There was one player...he forget to counterspell a game winning fireball against him for no reason, no reason at all. The fool, the horrible, horrible fool." Ray Kehr, after being told about the mistake after the game, shrugged and asked if anyone wanted to play some Vanguard.
In Round 4 of the tournament, Tsang watched at the 4-0 table, as two players ran out of time in the third game. One, John Pfromm, said "I guess you win, you have the higher life." His opponent, Ryan Gargano, stopped him, "Wait. I think they do it on cards in hand now." They called over Level I judge Darryl Hsiung, who did not know the correct ruling, and had to consult the latest Inquest. Tsang could only shake his head in shame.
While waiting for the Top 8 draft to start, Tsang witnessed an even more disturbing event taking place, "I saw seven children playing a multiplayer game off the same deck. One of them played a turn 2 channel and hurricane, killing everyone. They all folded, their hands in little piles."
Tsang's journey into the bowels of hell reached a climax during the finals of the qualifier, "The man that won the tournament... picked a Rites of Refusal over Cephalid Broker...the horror...the horror..."
