Regarding your last letter to the editor, I must say that if you like Deuteronomy 23:1, you'll love Deuteronomy 23:2. "No bastard shall enter the kindom of the Lord; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the kingdom of the Lord." Or, to put it another way, if you or any of your 2,048 ancestors over the last ten generations was illigitimate, you're screwed. Assuming that 99% of the population is legitimate (which is generous), that puts your personal odds at about one in ten billion.

I don't quite follow your math, but I do agree with your assessment that we are all screwed.
