Are Creatureless Decks Viable in Standard?

By: Veers21 - December 19, 2001

Are creatureless decks viable in the current standard metagame? Todays most popular internet writers speak out on this topic.

Mike Flores: “How can a deck with no men be as savage a beating as one where you turn gas cards sideways? There’s nothing like missing a vicious beast and serving to the dome every turn until the scrub your playing cries like a baby! Mise!”

Sean McKeown: “In my opinion creatureless decks are pretty bad, except for the good ones. Not including the last three tournaments I played in, I haven’t seen any non-creature decks do well in type 2. So take my advice, if you have good creatures to play with, keep them in your binder cause creatureless decks win sometimes.”

Zvi Moshowitz: “Creatureless decks in the current standard type 2 magic format has a direct correlation to the sum of 3 times the number of call of the herd tokens in the top 8 of the previous Grand Prix where X equals 25% of the decks playing with creatures, which outweighs that of creatureless decks by 32.48%. In the current example Mass (M) divided by elephants (E) is equal to counterspell (C) multiplied by players (P) which gives us M/E=C*P.”

John Rizzo: “After dropping out of the tournament in the 2-3 bracket I decided to take my stud-muffin, nightscape familiar, out back for some lovin. I’m the shiz-nigety, Bomb-digety biatch of magic. You want a piece of me Gary Wise? Bring it on stud!”
