Ask a Donais

Dear Jeff Donais,

I don't know what to do! My boyfriend was talking about marriage a few months ago and I told him I wasn't sure. Now I think he feels insulted, and I have a hunch that he's cheating on me. How can I find out what's really going on?

-Concerned in Chattanooga

Dear Concerned,

The judging staff was informed of the possibility that your boyfriend was cheating. A judge was instructed to watch him closely, and caught him drawing an extra card during Round Five. After gathering all the necessary information and looking at your boyfriend's past history of infractions, we decided to disqualify him without prize. The DCI will initiate a thorough investigation to determine whether or not he will be suspended.

Dear Mike Donais,

My current relationship seemed to be getting a bit stagnant, so I told my girlfriend that we should start seeing other people. The only problem is, she's dating other guys, while I don't feel motivated to go find someone else. I'm feeling a bit resentful, but I also know that I have no one to blame but myself. Should I tell her to stop seeing other men, or should I just deal with it?

-Regretful in Richmond

Dear Regretful,

Okay. Hold on, calm down. What happened? Ok, you played your Shock first. Now, he responded with Misdirection, right? So, you Absorbed that, and he added Divert to the stack? Ok, so here's what happens. The Divert resolves, and he can redirect the Absorb to another spell. Right, and he had it target itself? Ok, so he will gain the three life, and the Misdirection can now resolve. You didn't want to do that? Well, it's too late to go back at this point. You've already declared your target. The rest of the stack resolves, and Shock targets whatever you want. What? I understand that's not what you wanted to do, but it's too late. You already declared the target.

Dear Jeff Donais,

I recently decided to break up with my girlfriend. The problem is, she was living with me, and now she has no place to stay. I don't want her hanging around, so I kicked her out, but now I feel bad about it. What should I do?

-Conflicted in Cleveland

Dear Conflicted,

Your girlfriend has always been a great ambassador for the game, and it's very unfortunate that this happened. This incident should not take away from all she has done to promote Magic. The penalty was unfortunate, but fair and necessary. The DCI will look into the situation, and decide whether or not further action is appropriate.
