St. Paul, Minnesota — Local player Tad Reems was visibly elated following a decisive victory over Sam Stewart, a Minneapolis player with Pro Tour experience. The win, which occurred between the rounds of a weekly Saturday night Odyssey draft, consisted of a single game during which Stewart failed to draw a third land, or any of his numerous two-drops, despite casting two Sleight of Hands and an Opt.

"Man, it was awesome," Reems told his friends following the game. "I just totally rolled him. It was beautiful. First I got some early beats, and then I got a Traumatize. I didn't even need the Haunting Echoes, because I finished him off with [Mahamoti] Djinns first. I still had two counters in my hand, too. It was a total beating."

The impromptu duel was set up when Reems, after piloting his R/G/b/u draft deck to a 1-2 record, challenged Stewart to a game of Type 2 after Stewart had drawn into the Top 8. Stewart was initially unresponsive, but agreed to play when a friend handed him an experimental build of his Merfolk/Opposition deck. Stewart, as Reems later explained on several occasions, was at -6 life following Reems' final attack with his deck's only two Djinns, indicative of the total control that Reems had during the contest. Reems ended the game at 19 life, after he tapped 4 mana for a Lobotomy with a Nightscape Familiar in play.

"It's too bad that wasn't a sanctioned match, cause I bet I could have picked up a bunch of rating points," Reems continued, thoughtfully stroking his chin for emphasis. "See, I told you guys I can beat the good players. I just keep having bad luck at the qualifiers. Man, I just crushed him!"

According to witnesses, Reems was heard reminiscing over the win for the remainder of the evening, even when no one else was around to hear it. "What's that word again? Mise? Yeah, that's it. Mise."
