Another Editor Leaves for Brainburst

By: cavedan - January 14, 2002

Lincoln, Nebraska - In the aftershocks of last year's sudden abandonment of Mindripper in favor of Brainburst by editor Scott Johns and others, yet another editor has switched over to the popular new site, it was learned Thursday. During a living room press conference, 14-year-old Nebraska native Morris Turlingten, founder and editor of the Magic site www.geocities.021140.173.com/morris_turlingten, announced that he will henceforth cease Magic updates at his previous site and instead focus on contributions to Brainburst.

The move will likely mean the end for the Arden Park Middle School-based site, which includes such popular features as Morry's Stuff, About Me, My Pics, Star Wars Stuff, and Cool Magic Combos. The site's main Magic feature, Morry's Magic Decks, will still be available for public viewing, but will no longer post new decklists and JSS results. Video feeds of Turlingten's pet turtle Mickey will likewise be terminated.

When asked for comment, Turlingten explained that the move was due to budget shortfalls and the opportunity to win a $50 Giveaway. The first series of articles, including the aforementioned JSS report and the first installment of the new column Morry's Decks, which includes an analysis of a rogue deck dubbed R/G Fast Creatures, have not made the front page of Brainburst as of the last update. Also unknown is the extent to which the readership of Turlingten's site, consisting of Turlingten, Michigan resident Paul Roberts, and Arden Park computer instructor Mr. Dearborne, will follow over to Brainburst.

Turlingten's is not the only site that felt the effects of last year's switch. StarCity editor The Ferret was also courted by Brainburst, according to sources, but ultimately declined. The editors and staff of The New York Times, the Washington Post, and The Onion were also rumored to have considered Brainburst, an anonymous source reported. Additionally, Minneapolis-based editor Richard Smythe of the Magic site www.k12.minneapolis.0743.southhighschool.edu/classes/comptech/period3/sites/students/RichardsSite is expected to announce a switch to Brainburst as early as next week, with a report from PTQ Osaka - Minneapolis.
