Magic: The Gathering Senior Tour planned
Today news leaked from Wizards of the Coast (WoTC) headquarters in Redmond WA of Senior Pro Tour for the popular Collectible Card Game, Magic.
A press release contained the following:
"It has come to our attention that since our wildly popular strategy card game is entering it 9th year, some of the competitors might be 'getting on in years'. Since we are interested in squeezing every penny from all our disciples..ummm players, a new Pro Tour Circuit might make sense at this time..."
Details of the new Tour are sketchy at this point, but this reporter has learned that some of the following qualifications and benefits would be involved:
Qualifications:
- Competitors must be at least 30 years old by April 1, 2002.
- All formats will include cards from Mirage block or earlier
- Rounds will include breaks for bathroom and the taking of medication
- Prizes will be awarded as tax-free deposits to the competitor's 401K of choice
- There will not be lots of loud noises
- Round Pairings sheets and other printed matter will be in friendly 'Large Fonts'.
There were some other rumors about the tour, set to begin in Spring 2002. Most of the reaction in the Magic Community was positive.
