Fuller, Maher Suspended; DCI still trying to pin something on G. Wise

By: Loonook - January 29, 2002

As the further closing of the gap between successful cheaters and horrible players becomes closer and closer, the Magic Community has had to suspend two of its own: Ryan Fuller and Bob Maher Jr.

Maher, whose claim to fame is one of piloting a powerful Oath of Druids archetype deck through play, and Fuller, who according to some players bunked with the Lord of Darkness and taught Lucifer everything he knows, were investigated on two different accounts. With so many high-profile bannings (following Theron Martin's 5 year suspension) the magic community at large asks one question: Why not Gary Wise?

Wise, a tournament player whose long list of credits include his love for pie and being unable to pull off the desperate Bald Guy chic shown to be popular by John 'Friggin' Rizzo, has been a target of ire for many people, most of whom don't know him. Throughout the last year, the DCI has went over the rules with a fine-tooth comb, sifting to find a way to boot Wise from tournament play.

"Well... we cannot go after him because he is an annoying Canadian, because we would have to take out half of our Canadian base. He is a pompous creep; however, there goes over 50% of all top 8 finishers in the last four years. Indeed, Wise has become my great white whale... my shot at greatness" stated PTR (Peter Szigeti) during a recent interview. Though not necessarily a high-ranking DCI official, PTR just hates Gary Wise, possibly over a twisted love affair; the details of which remain sketchy, but may have included then-Pro Tour player and R&D 'big name' Randy Buehler.
