Hilarious "Magic Colony" Article Not Really A MiseTings Article At All
San Antonio, Texas - Confusion and bewilderment prevailed in the home of San Antonio resident and longtime Magic player Daryl Mason, when it was discovered that a humorous article believed to be from the popular humor site MiseTings was not a joke, but was in fact a real news announcement posted on Sideboard.com. The article in question, written by Josh Bennett, outlines the plans for an MTV Real World-style house known as Magic Colony, with the stated goal being to break the OBC format, and, more importantly, to elevate geekiness to entirely new levels.
"I don't know what to say," a flustered Mason told reporters following the incident. "Some people had told me about this Onion-style Magic site awhile ago, but I never actually visited it. Then, here I am surfing the net, when I stumble across this 'Magic Colony' article. I'm thinking, hey, this is some funny shit, I bet this is that MiseTings place they were talking about. Turns out it wasn't MiseTings at all."
Magic Colony, as the project has been named, is an experiment in which eight fairly well-known Magic players, ranging from Jeff Fung to Peter Szigeti, take a month-long break from their ordinary lives of drafting, testing, drafting, going to school, and drafting, to focus solely on testing OBC. The intrepid players will break from their 31-day session only to play in GP: Tampa, at which point time has been alotted for each player to take their monthly shower. By the time Magic Colony is over, it is expected that the players will have broken the OBC format, in addition to having lost any respect they had previously received as normal members of society.
"I mean, am I out of line here?" Mason asked. "I know Magic players have done some pretty nerdy things in their day, but a house just for Magic? That's ridiculous. I guess some part of me wishes that the article was a fake… I'm ashamed right now to call myself a Magic player."
A MiseTings writer speaking under the condition of anonymity commented, "Magic Colony just goes to show that truth is more hilarious than fiction. Seriously, I couldn't make up shit that funny if I tried. Unbelievable."
The Magic Colony article is not the first time that Mason, 22, has mistaken a site for MiseTings. Last December, an article that Mason deemed "a fucking riot" turned out to be a strategy article on CCGPrime. Believing the site to be MiseTings, Mason went so far as to submit his own humor article to the site before realizing his error. Mason's article, titled "Celestial Convergence Adapted for Extended," was posted to the front page later that week.
