Breaking all Records - The new Asian Number One

By: Anonymous - March 01, 2002

The World's longest Magic Event ever, the 336 Hours of Hongkong Marathon Event ended last Friday with a recordbreaking performance of new Asian-Pacific Number One, HongKong local Kevin Chi Ho Tse Esq.

After posting a sensational streak of 158 wins in a row in the Constructed format, he advanced to earn the title "Longest Streak ever" and take the throne of Richard J Lynch, until then undisputed champion in this area, having a mere 55 wins in a row in the Constructed format and 49 wins in the Limited format, totaling up to 104 matches without a loss.

When asked about his success, Kevin saw three main factors that influenced his savage run:

"Well, first of all I did extreme playtesting to take advantage of the fact that everyone is currently testing with Torment for the Regionals and not paying that much attention to the current Type II Format anymore, so my new Lifegaining Psychatog Deck could cut through the field like a hot knife through butter."

Also, I seem to handle 2 hours of sleep every 24 hours much better than the rest of the attending persons, and I am not willing to draw intentionally, because it's either win or lose, although I can hardly remember how it is to lose. Hehehe."

The Event did bring up another fantastic streak. 12 Year old Wing Lok Tam fought hard to get his first tournament win, having played the game two times before. After 120 back-to-back losses he figured, that his Elvish Piper-Devouring Strossus Deck was not able to win in a field of streamlined Decks, so he moved over to play a few 3-Rounds of Swiss Sideevents. After losing every game in the first 39 Drafts, where he tried to prove that the strategy of drafting a "5-Color's Best" deck is still viable, he conceded in match 119 to go home and take out his Pokemon cards again.

We are looking forward to the next Pro Tour and the showing Kevin Chi Ho Tse Esq. will make.
