Kevin Chi Ho Tse Esq Wins Record 158th straight match
The most amazing streak in magic does not belong to Kai Budde. Kevin Chi Ho Tse Esq ("Kevin Chi Ho Tse to my friends") narrowly avoided a loss today in the evening's 4th scheduled 8-person constructed tournament on thursday night in Hong Kong's Outer Limits store, thus extending his rather remarkable winning streak to 158 consecutive victories.
Kevin Ho's psychatog deck missed land drops on turn 3 and 4 of game 3 against finalist Wing Lok Tam's poison/celestial convergence deck, causing the spectators to worry that Chi Ho Tse's streak might finally come to an end. Fortunately, with 14 poison counters on him, Chi Ho was able to top deck a third land, cast pyschatog, and recover the game. With Ho Chi still at 20 life, Lok Tam's celestial convergence was also unable to seal the game in time.
"I very disappointed" said Lok Tam, who was hoping to end a streak of his own, 120 consecutive losses in constructed alone. Tam, generally known as a limited specialist, has only lost his last 119 matches in that format. "I better drafting" Tam Lok admitted after the match.
Other notables of the tournament included four small children, a bum off the street, and Andrew Ingraham, who reportedly flew to Hong Kong for a bottle of cheap wine and a sandwich, and has not won a match since he entered the DCI in 1998.
Said Ingraham, "It was really nice to get to play against Hong Kong's best. I've been in tournaments before against name players like Theron Martin, Ryan Fuller, and Justin Schenider, but these guys out here are really, really pushing it to the limit."
With his standard rating having soared to 2111, Chi Ho admits to looking forward to playing in the next constructed pro tour. Will his amazing winning streak come to an end when confronted with a live opponent? Only time will tell.
