Idle MiseTings Writers Hoping Joshua Claytor Returns to Headlines

Universal Press - Past and present MiseTings writers expressed disappointment recently that Joshua "X" Claytor, affectionately known by most players as "some guy," has not done anything newsworthy in recent months. Claytor, whose misadventures have inspired some of the best articles ever posted on MiseTings, is widely heralded as one of the few people capable of providing material rich enough to restore MiseTings to its past glory.

The much-maligned Claytor, who has for the most part avoided mockery since his GP: Minneapolis article, resurfaced again at GP: Tampa, but ultimately did not do anything noteworthy beyond writing a few atrociously bad Feature Match reports. This is a considerable achievement for Claytor, in light of the fact that he still writes regularly on several websites, and recently became co-editor of CCGPrime.

Several explanations have been offered for the lack of Claytor-based articles. "When I saw that that one dude (Claytor) became editor of The Prime, I thought to myself, 'that's an article for sure,'" said a MiseTings writer who wished to remain anonymous. "But when I actually started writing the article, I discovered that the headline spoke for itself - there was nothing more to say."

Another MiseTings writer lamented the lack of Claytor-related GP: Tampa articles. "I was really hoping that [Claytor] would do something stupid at Tampa, since that always makes for a hilarious article," said the unidentified writer. "Unfortunately, all he did was some terribly written match coverage, full of bad grammar, over-dramatized play-by-play, and blatantly wrong deck analysis: basically, nothing you can't find on any strategy website. It just wasn't even worth its own MiseTings article."

Claytor's reports, which can be found on Sideboard.com, include such gems as "each of these matches are in essence ante matches, and the players wanted to go home with as much cash as possible" (Malka vs. Kennison) and "creatures like Fright Crawler held the ground" (Fung vs. Clegg). However, none of these reports, which featured numerous instances of unreported key plays as well as excessive kissing of Sol Malka's ass, were deemed worthy of dedicated ridicule.

"What the hell is that?" commented a visibly upset Noah Weil after seeing the coverage of his match against the eventual champion Malka, in which Weil's numerous accomplishments on the Pro Tour and his record of having played more sanctioned matches than anyone in the world were concisely summarized as "a Minnesota player who was celebrating his twenty second birthday."

One-time MiseTings writer JC, author of another instant Claytor-based classic, also offered insight into the phenomenon. "A lot of people have wondered about why I no longer write for MiseTings," the popular writer told reporters. "In truth, it isn't because of school or family or OBC testing commitments, but rather the lack of anything new to write about 'some guy'. You know I only write quality articles, and there is no article quite like a 'some guy' article." JC also noted that the fact that a site that has been running for less than half a year is already hearing talk of a return to glory days is "really, really sad."
