Pro Tour Player Attempts All-Time Record

By: MNYT - March 13, 2002

While it may be Kai Budde that will stay in the record books as the most successful Magic player of all time, Dr. Michael Pustilnik has vowed to put himself in the record books one way or another at this upcoming Pro Tour, which is stationed in Osaka, Japan. Hot off a two-day road trip to Grand Prix: Tampa, the Brooklyn, New York resident has decided to go all-out and drive to Osaka.

When asked about this journey of epic proportions, Dr. Pustilnik commented "Well, um, it wasn't really my idea at first, it sort of um just happened to be that ah I couldn't get a flight at a reasonable price to Osaka. I tried everything I could. So, ah, um, considering that I have plenty of time on my hands, and I've driven um everywhere else under such scenarios, it just seemed like a plan to check and see."

While last time most people checked, Japan was not connected to America by any roads by virtue of being across the Pacific Ocean, Pustilnik departed for the Pro Tour early Sunday morning from his home in New York City confident of his chances of achieving glory. With an ambitious plan involving a northern route across Canada and crossing Alaska's Aleutian Islands, 'Dr. P' is planning on island-hopping across the Pacific into Siberia, then crossing southward across the Asian mainland until finally reaching a crossing into Japan.

"Well, ah, this is definitely a record that nobody will break," continued Pustilnik in his interview last Saturday at Neutral Ground, New York. "It's a trip to a Pro Tour half the world away, and for anyone to go farther than this they'd have to go the wrong way around. And that's a lot of gas miles, not to mention the Atlantic Ocean."

If anyone can do it, Mikey P. can, and there's a record for the taking. We just hope he brought his snow tires and a Canadian-English dictionary, so he can figure out how to make a left after the gas station, eh.
