GP Champ Excited About Second "Sideboard" Feature Article

By: IMU - April 04, 2002

Ding Yuen Long won GP Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, earning him $2,400 and his second feature article on "The Sideboard Online." The Sideboard is a sporadically updated internet site which features coverage of the latest Magic the Gathering tornaments along with strategy articles, if they get around to it.

An undisclosed source close to the Sideboard gushed about Ding's performance. "It's a great story of hard work and success, much like Farid Merengi from Pro Tour LA." "It's great to see players from other markets, er countries, succeed at the highest levels of play, with nothing more than a tireless dedication to the skills of the game."

Ding himself was almost as excited about his graceful write up as his new found riches. "With this money, I'll definitely be able to afford to go to Worlds again this year, which is great. Also, its nice to see my name recognized in another Sideboard article. It's a great piece about my savage drafting and playskill." said Ding. "And it was really well edited."

"I had been featured in a previous Sideboard article for my play skill, but frankly, that wasn't nearly as flattering. This one, however, was really positive. It's nice to see that success not only gets you money, but allows people to form new opinions on you, based on your popularity."

Ding went on to note that "It's nice to see that people can ignore your past and simply recognize and rejoice in your present achievement." When pressed, however, he agreed that the skills which earned him fame at both GP Kuala Lumpur and Worlds 2001 were "similar."

Field reporters Canyon Man and Voiceotruth assisted in the preparation of this article.
