Human Caricature Wins Australian Nationals

By: Anonymous - May 13, 2002

Canberra, Australia - Justin West has had many careers in his brief time on earth -- member of the walking dead, professional wrestler Thugzor of the third-rate Australian Cage Match League, hired biker muscle, traveling mosh pit organizer, that guy in the first scene of "The Scorpion King" who drank from the skull of his slain enemy before roaring triumphantly that no man would ever defeat him -- but the one he is proudest of is his new position as Australian Magic Champion 2002.

"We're not quite sure what to do with him," said Asia/Pacific DCI Coordinator Chris Zantides. "We're pretty certain he's pissed about something, but we can't tell from looking at him what it might be. The tied-on shirt says Seattle to me, but Jeff Donais thought it was 'edgy drifter.' The Death Dealer shirt might be Goth, it might be Goth poser, it might be Goodwill, it might be really bad taste...There just aren't enough hints pointing in the same direction. And what do you do with a stocking hat pulled down exactly to the eyes? How can you promote that?"

At this point the photographer noticed that the arm position might be trying to convey "Wild West cowboy," reducing Zantides to tears.

Another picture later turned up, showing that whatever else might not be known about Justin West, you can be sure that he doesn't hide surprise well.
