Bram Snepvangers: "Kai is my Bitch."
Flush with confidence from his victories over reigning PT Player of the Year Kai Budde in the single elimination rounds of Grand Prix-Florence and PT-Nice, Dutchman Bram Snepvangers made a shocking claim: "Kai is my Bitch."
Snepvangers defeated Budde in the semifinals of GP-Florence 2000, Budde's first loss after winning 10 straight Grand Prix Top 8 matches. The match, which pitted Bram's "Oath of Druids" variant against Kai's "Trix" deck, could best be described as an "Italian Face-Smashing" or perhaps a "SoEuro Punk-Out." Noted Snepvangers, "Kai definitely assumed the role of 'my bitch' in that one."
Things only got worse for Budde in his Top 8 match against Snepvangers at the recent Pro Tour-Nice. Budde had previously won all 5 Pro Tours in which he advanced to the final day of competition. That streak ended abruptly as Bram thoroughly outplayed and outclassed Kai en route to a stunning 3-0 victory. Snepvangers was blunt and confident when describing the results of the match. "I think 'bitch' would be an appropriate description," he asserted.
Only Englishman and Magic afterthought Craig Jones, who defeated Budde in the finals of Grand Prix Birmingham 1998, can claim a similar degree of ownership of the talented German. It remains to be seen whether Snepvangers can continue his eye-opening run of success in the face of long odds. Look for this rivalry to heat up in the upcoming European championships, World Championships, and Grand Prix-London. One thing that can be counted on, however, is the overwhelming confidence of the so-called "Asshole from Amsterdam." When asked to foresee the outcome of his next encounter with the "German Nickname-Stealing Juggernaut," Snepvangers simply smiled. "My prediction: 100% chance of bitch."
