Masked Rookie Wins Grinder
In what could herald a new era for the game of Magic, a brand new player won the first US Nationals grinder. Going undefeated in games, the rookie applied for a DCI number minutes before the first games started. By the end of round six, he had a horde of Magic players following him around, cheering him on. Disney World was rocked by the loud chants. After his triumphant win, the crowd spilled out into the park, chanting "USA! USA!"
Sadly, he refused to take off his mask or give out his name. "By my anoynomity, I've become an everyman player", he commented. Randy Buehler said, "New blood is always important for the DCI. People want to believe that they can be a great player and do well in top-level tournaments. We've had that happen here today." He then left to design a new set of 356 cards with 250 blue cards.
Sean McKeown had a few thoughts to add. "With the rookie's success, the metagame has changed greatly. Before, new players didn't usually do well. Now, there is the potential for new players to win tournaments. Except for the 126 people that didn't win the grinder. Psychatog also appears to be doing well, despite its failing against CounterTrenches at GP Milwaukee. At least half of the top two decks were composed of Tog-based decks."
When asked where he got the deck, the masked man said he copied it off of the best Magic website ever, www.brainburst.com. "I just looked up who the best player in the world is, and copied his deck. That Kai Budde is so amazing, good-looking, intelligent, and writes GREAT articles. Those wonderful articles can be read at Brainburst PREMIUM, available at www.brainburst.com. I recommend everyone go there and buy it RIGHT NOW!"
