Georgia Man Gets Land Flooded
Duluth, GA - After a decidedly improbable event this weekend, a participant at a local Magic: The Gathering tournament complained loudly of haven gotten “Mana flooded”.
“I got completely screwed,” exclaimed Sean Reusing, after drawing land cards for five consecutive turns. “That guy is a complete scrub, I should never lose to him.” Sean continued, referring to Patrick Ready, 15, a frequent gamer at the neighborhood store where the event took place.
Reusing and Ready were playing for a top 8 spot in the weekly Type 2 contest. Reusing had looked to be in a winning position just prior to the land flooding. After attacking with his Wild Mongrel, Reusing had pumped the unblocked Dog by discarding an Arrogant Wurm and then cleverly invoked the Wurms Madness ability. With six points of damage on the board, and no creatures on Ready’s side, he had felt confidant. “But”, Sean explained, “That little bastard topdecked everything he needed, while I kept peeling land”. Ready had Terminated the Wurm next attack phase, then Earthquaked for 2 the turn after.
“Sean’s a much better player than that Kid” said Jaime Salvat, a friend of Reusing, “And Machinehead is soooo Invasion block”.
Others who had watched the match closely agreed with Reusing’s assessment of the highly improbable nature of what had just happened. “When he drew that fifth land, I was like, NO WAY!” said observer Matt Baldwin, whose crucial tie-breakers were dependant upon Reusing winning the match.
When asked if he felt there could be a reason why he lost other than Land flooding, Reusing was indignant. “Like what you dipshit? I drew five consecutive land” he replied. When Salvat suggested Reusing could have pitched a land to the Wild Mongrel to save it from the Earthquake, Reusing simple gave him an angry glance and walked away.
