Good Man of the Week: Baby Huey

By: KK - June 24, 2002

William Harry Jensen III was once touted as the next big thing. While there was no arguing that he was big, he never put up too many impressive performances outside of his one top 8. When Chris Pikula labels you as the next player of the year though, you have to question his scouting abilities. There is a reason Yogi Berra isn’t out finding new talent for the Yanks.

One thing is for sure, Baby Huey is one of the true good men in this game. I can’t lie, Billy is not one of the people I had in mind when I first started this column, but He managed to present a good enough case in Florida to earn him the title.

Huey is one of the kings of the money draft circuit. His partners of choice are also his best friends and team for all magic team events, Brock Parker and Matt Linde. They are truly a dominant force, perhaps too dominant as they often frighten away potential opponents. However this is just as likely due to body odor.

When there are no drafts to be had, a game of spades is extremely likely to break out. Once again, usually teamed with Matt Linde, and often facing Jon Finkel and any number of partners.

My fondest memory of Huey is from Grand Prix Houston. We sat down to play each other and he commented, “Don’t you just hate people.” A comment I was not quick to agree with, though I knew where he was coming from. Less than 3 minutes after that, some loud mouthed jackass starts making elephant noises as he casts Call of the Herd. At this point I asked Huey if we could ask a judge for a time extension to beat the shit out of him for attempting to ruin the game we love.

However, the deciding factor in giving this honor to Huey was when he showed me a zippo lighter he bought for Matt. It had Matt’s favorite football team on it (Green Bay) and engraved was “Best Friend for Life.” If that doesn’t make someone a good man, I don’t know what does.

So for all these reasons, and filling the void of Andre the Giant, I give you Baby Huey, Good Man of the Week.
