Good Man of the Week: The Baby Faced Assassin

By: KK - July 01, 2002

Zach Parker is a true prodigy of this game. Standing about 5’ tall don’t let this little guy fool you, he has a strong game. Not only does he know how to draft and play the game, he has one of the most savage mental games every.

Apparently puberty is not a pre requisite to driving people older than you to tears. Jordan Berkowitz, in perhaps the most pathetic display of cowardice not involving the French, Refused to play game 2 against the Face. Face had driven him so completely mad with trash talk, he was unable to compete. The always grounded Jon Becker got him to go through the motions, but you don’t need to know the first thing about magic to know that Jordan had no prayer at that point. JBerk was not a happy camper so I felt the need to escort Baby Face to his room in fear of retaliation.

Zach is not only a fierce competitor, but he is quite selfless. He gave up eligibility for the JSS to play with his brothers in the Teams Pro Tour a few years back. That being said, he is also a surly prick. He swears like Julie Andrews piss drunk, and has the demeanor of PTR when he is really mad (or really happy, doesn’t make much of a difference with trash talkers).

He recently, with one of his brothers, managed to take down a teams PTQ. In the finals he beat Nationals top 8 competitor Matt Rubin by out playing him. Matt all out attacked with a Seton’s Desire on one of his creatures. Much to his dismay, Floating Shield is fully capable of targeting opponent’s creatures. Parker did not fail to recognize this and destroyed the Desire and winning the PTQ.

Expect to see this kid in a top 8 before long.

So for all these reason and for being the meanest sunofabitch under 12 years of age, The Baby Faced Assassin is this week’s Good Man of the Week.
