R&D To Attend Mandatory Diversity Training

RENTON, Wash. -- In response to what an insider called "a grotesque lack of understanding of the concept," the game company Wizards of the Coast will require its Magic: The Gathering research and development team members to attend mandatory diversity training, MiseTings has learned.

The training would teach people in Magic R&D what "diversity" means and how to accept and value it, said a Wizards human resources insider who asked to remain anonymous.

"We need to positively influence attitudes about diversity," the insider said. "That's what this training will do. The idea is that diversity is linked to other business issues. It's really a trend in the business community to have some sort of diversity training, and it's a trend that we need to begin following.

"Especially after certain people were mouthing off after Worlds about 'how diverse things are,' if you know what I mean."

The insider said that diversity training is about gaining insight into one's biases, beliefs and stereotypes.

"It's pretty simple. Biased employees means biased results," the insider said. "Before we're done, R&D will gain an understanding that the world is a rainbow and not just two or three colors."
