Good Man of the Week: Dan Clegg
First off I am going to apologize for the lack of humor that will be present in this article. For those of you who hate that I have been writing serious articles hit the back button now before you feel the need to post some asinine comment in the forums.
The DCI has finally done it. They have gone about as far as they can go. They have become the Witch Hunters they printed in The Dark. Can it get any worse? As much as I supported Bob Maher and Dave Williams, they don’t compare to Dan Clegg in terms of men I trust. Some bannings are warranted. Trey Van Cleve, Ryan Fuller, these are men who need a break from the game. But Dan Clegg, I am ill at the thought.
The first I heard of Dan Clegg was when he invented a little white weenie deck involving Land Tax and Firestorm. Alatar1.dec ruled extended tournaments the world over. Dan didn’t break through until recently, but his success was much deserved. He was a meticulous player who made few mistakes due to his often overbearing slow play. This was not an abuse of the clock. Merely Dan playing at the speed he felt comfortable.
Dan is one of the most honest kind men you will ever meet, and his suspension is nothing less than a complete travesty. If they announced Dave Price was banned for cheating tomorrow it would no longer surprise me. Not b/c Dave is anything less than the most honest player in the game. Rather because the DCI has become so obsessed with handing out suspensions to name players, they have lost sight of the purpose of suspension.
I hate to turn this honor I am bestowing on Dan into a rant about DCI blunders, but I am infuriated. Dan has his top 8 he likely had many more coming, unfortunately for now, he will have to settle for being good man of the week. Take care Dan, you will be missed.
