Detroit-Area Player DQ'd For Racism
LONDON, ON --- At a recent PTQ in London, Ontario, Detroit/Cleveland-area player Scott McGurk was disqualified without prize after an alleged racist outburst during his Round 6 match.
McGurk's opponent, Michael Williams, was astounded by McGurk's behavior.
"He was badly, badly mana-screwed and we were both at very low life, when I drew and cast Hell-Bent Raider," said Williams. "He went off about how he didn't like African Americans."
Eyewitnesses said that McGurk debated countering the Raider or blocking with his lone Wild Mongrel, but eventually decided to take the damage. That was when the incident occurred.
McGurk shook his head and said "No blacks." Incredulous onlookers could only stare, aghast, until Williams asked him to repeat what he had just said.
"No fucking blacks, I said!" repeated a disgusted McGurk, moving to adjust his life-counter from 6 to 4. He was promptly disqualified.
McGurk was at a loss to explain the situation when we reached him for comment.
"I'd only drah-wn two land for about 15 turns, and he played the Raider. I had decided naht to use my Circular Lah-gic or to black with my Wild Mah-ngrel," said McGurk, still incensed about his disqualification and subsequent beating at the hands of a group of passing OG's. "But I decided to just take it and swing back ahn my turn. So I declared no blackers. Then all of the sudden people are calling judges and frah-wning at me."
According to DCI bigwig Jeff Donais, no disciplinary action will be taken again McGurk, who suffers from an inability to pronounce his "o" sounds correctly, an affliction common among players at Detroit-area PTQ, GPT and Prerelease events.
"Still, why can't he learn to talk right, like us Canadians, eh?" said Donais.
