Mark Rosewater and his best buddy, Randy Buehler, were sitting at the office one day, enjoying a casual game of Yu-Gi-Oh!. Mark was looking at his shiny foils while Randy was making quick work of a Snickers bar. As he sat awestruck by the coolness of his foil Judgeman, Mark had a revelation that would forever change the face of Magic. Staring deep into the shiny uberness of the card, Mark fell into a deep trance and began to have a mystical vision.

The Judgeman appeared on high and spoke to him saying, "Mark, you have been summoned to do my bidding."

"Yes master."

"You know that Yu-Gi-Oh! is the greatest card game of all! You know how many 10 year-olds play it, don't you?"

"Yes master."

"So you must destroy Magic for me, so that Yu-
Gi-Oh! will reign supreme, MUAHAHAHA! No... better yet, turn Magic into Yu-Gi-Oh! so that all will know my awesome power. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"Yes master."

Mark was suddenly awakened by a loud belch from Randy, but his purpose was not forgotten. He looked casually at Randy and said,

"You know, Randy, I was thinking about how much cooler Yu-Gi-Oh! is than Magic."

"I know what you mean Mark. This Dark Magician is so keen!"

"Well what if we could make Magic more like Yu-Gi-Oh!? Wouldn't that be bangarang?"

"I don't know Mark... wouldn't that upset some people?"

"Not when they see how nifty the new game will be!"

"New game?!?!"

"Uh huh. Here's what we're going to do: First, we only print creatures from now on, so it's like two kids fighting with only their monsters. Just like Yu-Gi-Oh! Second.."

"Wait a second Mark! Only creatures?!?"

"Yep, and that's not all! We're also going to redesign the card face for 8th edition so that it looks just like Yu-Gi-Oh! All the 10 year-olds will worship us!"

"Aw gee Mark, are you sure..."

"WE WILL TURN MAGIC INTO YU-GI-OH!!!!"

"Yes master."

"And if anyone complains, just tell them 'In a short answer: NO'."

"Yes master."

Later that night, Mark prepared a shrine for the Judgeman, awaiting his next command for the transformation of Magic...
