Aryan Mages Working on "Heroes of the Third Reich" Standalone

Inspired by a seemingly innocent comment by Magic: The Gathering R&D employee Mark Rosewater, white supremacist gamers around the globe have begun developing “Heroes of the Third Reich,” a new standalone set for the popular collectible card game (CCG).

Rosewater wrote the comments in his article titled “The Great White Way,” published on February 3rd on the Magic website www.magicthegathering.com, for which he is a regular writer. When discussing the role of the color white in the structure of the game, he noted, “Fascism is…very white.” While most continued on from this part of the article to learn more about the qualities of white in the so-called “color wheel,” those magicians who happen to believe that whites are the master race immediately began considering the ramifications of the statement.

“Judgment was supposedly the ‘white set,’ but it also featured green heavily,” noted Cincinnati, Ohio resident James Mischoff, who has seventy-five Magic tournaments and three lynchings to his credit. “But the ‘Heroes’ standalone will truly make our white forefathers proud. Torment was the ‘black set,’ but it didn’t feature more than a quarter black cards overall. On the other hand, ‘Heroes’ will feature one hundred percent white cards. In addition, there will be no black or red cards whatsoever.”

A collaborative effort has emerged from people around the world as they take to internet rings, instant messaging, email lists, and newsgroups to spread ideas and debate power, functionality, and flavor. Recent ideas that have gained favor include reprinting of past cards with new names and creature types. Examples include reprinting the card “Aven Brigadier” as “Hermann Goering, Luftwaffe Commander” and “Windborn Muse” as “Joseph Goebbels, Chief of Publicity.” Currently in development are cards featuring Nazi stalwarts Heinrich Himmler, Rudolf Hess, and Adolf Hitler himself.

Fascism, a right-wing form of government in which markets are allowed to operate freely and the government severely checks personal freedoms and civil rights, rose to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s as war-torn countries searched for scapegoats amidst a surge in nationalism. The World War II Axis powers, Germany, Italy, and Japan, all featured this short-lived form of government. “This set would feature Japanese and Italian cards, in theory,” noted Burt Schmidt, a resident of Boise, Idaho. “However, the color yellow has no meaning in the game of Magic, and those dago bastards from Italy turned tail and fled at the first sign of an Allied invasion.”

Many players are finding inspiration in the most unlikely of places. “Just the other day, as I was curbing this black bastard in an alleyway, I came upon a most divine realization,” said Ronald Benau, a KKK member who hails from Mobile, Alabama. “Why not make a card called ‘curbing,’ which has the effect of destroying a black card in play? It made too much sense. Then I curbed that bastard for looking at a white woman.”

Thousands of deranged wackos and deluded head cases think this is the time when the set could have its most broad appeal. “The best player in Magic right now is Kai Bude [sic], a proud Aryan… what better time to relese [sic] this set?” wrote an anonymous user going by the handle JuzamHitler134 on the popular Nazi-Magic forum www.whiteistheonlycolor.net. “Getting our mesage [sic] out through a mainstream game like Magic is really a big step forward for us.”

While the mages who work on this set believe it has a broad appeal and will sell millions of dollars worth of product, it does appear to be in stiff competition with other amateur-designed Magic sets. Druids in the hills of Pennsylvania are said to be hard at work on the “Green Set,” codenamed “Chlorophyll,” and Navajo descendents have already sent their first all-red set, “Teepee,” to the printers. However, neo-Nazis such as Michael Eberhart remain undeterred. “At worst, we can always drum up support by starting a phony war, then arrest all those who are ‘suspicious’ and call those who stand in our way ‘traitors.’” The government is already doing that? Oh, right.”
