Ryan Fuller Unearths Long Sought "Extra Phase" at GP Cape Town

By: Hubbo - October 17, 2001

With a backpack of MTG cards and a dream, we once again join our hero Ryan Fuller as he plunges headlong into the savage wastelands of Africa in search of the Golden Fleece of Magic: and extra combat phase!

Not knowing where to even begin the search for such a treasure, Ryan takes a much needed break in his quest to play in GP Cape Town. Resigned to wander the earth and never find his precious missing phase, he strikes gold against an unwitting South African who has yet to learn what a groundbreaking discovery is about to be made!

With a mere Chamber of Manipulation in play on Fuller's side to combat a nasty horde of creatures, all seems lost for our valiant hero. But suddenly his opponent declares his attack, and the cry of "EUREKA!" escapes our hero's lips! He explains to his opponent that a new phase of combat has just been founded! There is much rejoicing in the streets of Cape Town as Fuller lays out the new and improved phases of combat:

  • Declare Attack
  • (NEW!!!) Move Creatures You Are Thinking About Attacking With "Slightly Forward"
  • Pass Priority Opponent May Now Cast Effects
  • Creatures You Previously Moved Slightly Forward MUST Now Attack
  • Declare Blockers
  • Damage!
All this humble reporter can say is: "wow!" Once again Ryan Fuller has given something back to the Magic community, even turning down a spot in the highly coveted MTG Invitational just to search out and find this very special phase. Even though the ignorant judges at GP Cape Town denied the existence of the "new phase" (what do you expect? they're African) when called over for a ruling, no one can doubt the great importance of Mr. Fuller's incredible discovery!
