HOUSTON -- Amateur Magic: The Gathering player Justin Timberlake celebrated his first-ever tournament victory Sunday evening when, in a tense, tight match at a local card store, he, in his own words, "savagely ripped one off the top."

The third game of the final match at Ace's Games, on which hinged the first prize of a box of Darksteel, wasn't looking too good from the very beginning, Timberlake said.

"Things were really crappy until, suddenly, I savagely ripped one off the top," he said. "That's when it all turned around."

Timberlake said that he knew he wouldn't always be able to rely on savagely ripping one off the top in the future.

"I don't think there's a single fan out there who doesn't enjoy the pure adrenalin spectacle of a player savagely ripping one off the top," Timberlake said. "I enjoyed it, and the people watching enjoyed it. But I can't guarantee that it will ever happen again, savagely or otherwise."

Timberlake, an up-and-coming amateur, is also known for a string of pop music hits. He traditionally tries to draft blue-red.

"He may have a bunch of like really big songs or whatever, but from now on the only thing that we're going to remember is that time he came in here and savagely ripped one off the top," said store owner Tina Gaffney.
