Budde Victorious, Is He Human?

By: MB - November 05, 2001

New Orleans, LA -- Once again, Magic superstar Kai Budde took home the big check this weekend, winning Pro Tour New Orleans with his Illusions/Donate deck. This victory marks the 3rd individual Pro Tour victory for the German Juggernaut. Budde also has an invitational, team pro tour, world championship, and two player of the year titles in his resume. Some would consider him to be the best player in the game, yet others question whether Kai has an unfair advantage over other competitors. Specifically, many suspect that Kai is in fact not human and is using his special powers unscrupulously. While many have long suspected Budde of being some sort of alien lifeform for quite some time, no evidence to back such theories has been discovered until this event.

"Have you ever heard the phrase 'Resistance is futile'?" Kai Budde asked a helpless Dave Humpherys as he decimated the American in their semifinal match Sunday. This was the second beating of the day, occuring before the smashing of Finland's Tomi Walamies, but after the ridiculous thrashing of Darwin Kastle. This phrase is, of course, an obvious giveaway as to Budde's alien origins.

Other excerpts from the Budde-Humpherys match:

Budde played first, and David Entombed Multani, Maro Sorceror on turn one. "That isn't a Crosis. Foolish mortal.", joked Kai.

Dave went first and Entombed during Kai's end step. "Why do you [human scum] always draw your Entombs?" said Kai.

"Do you hear that, Mr. Humpherys?" Kai asked, as he riffled his deck for the third game, "That is the sound of inevitability."

Kai was very happy at Dave's ill luck, smiling broadly at the cameras. "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it?" Kai commented, "That's what it is to be a slave."

About the accusations of his alien origins, Kai only had this to say: "I come in peace." When asked to comment on the disqualification of "human scum", Trey Van Cleave, Kai noted, "He will be assimilated."
