Selecting Ninth Edition
Welcome to Selecting Ninth Edition, where you get to play the role of R&D developer, art director, and flavor text writer for Magic's next Core Set! You can return to this page each Monday to see what new decisions you get to make, and to check the ongoing results throughout the summer.
Be the R&D developer. Each week between June 14th and September 6th, you'll vote on a showdown between two (and sometimes more than two) cards. You get to decide which ends up in Ninth Edition and which gets kicked to the curb.

Week 5: Sacred Nectar vs. Monstrous Growth
Welcome to the fifth week of Selecting Ninth Edition!
Whereas last week featured two casual-level cards, this week is much more likely to matter for players who know absolutely zero about the game. This week, you'll be choosing between Sacred Nectar and Monstrous Growth. Sacred Nectar grants you 4 life at sorcery speed, which not only isn't a very good strategy in any deck but in fact isn't really all that much life for its mana cost. Monstrous Growth, on the other hand, is useless as a combat trick because you must cast it before combat, and quite frankly doesn't offer as much for you as typical green instants at that mana cost.
So which will it be? Both of these core set staples are poised to distract and confuse new players everywhere. Will the promise of lifegain befuddle and somewhat victimize newbies to the game? Or will the thought of +4/+4 tempt people who really don't know any better? The choice is yours, so get your vote in and come back next week to find out which card won!
