Seven Cards Die in Murder-Suicide

Renton, WA (AP) - Wizards of the Coast employees witnessed a gruesome scene this morning as they opened their Gatherer windows, only to find Eternal Witness and other popular cards that survived the banhammer, shot to death.

Instead of the cards taking their usual place in the Autocard Window, their images loaded, one by one, depicting a ghastly crime that took their lives sometime late last night. Among the card remains discovered so far are:

Seven cards die in murder-suicide.

Several of the cards were the targets of threats earlier in the month. Shared Fate appeared to be an innocent bystander, however. The cards were killed assassin-style, many still in their sleeves.

Also found at the scene was Vault Ninja, sprawled on the ground, a bullet through the roof of his mouth and a suicide note taped to his corpse.

"'This is for Broooooooooooodstarrrrrrrr[sic],' the note said, but we also know he was upset about some more recent issues, such as Skullclamp and Ravager," said WOTC Homicide Division spokesperson Trinity Greene. "I think what happens in these cases is someone is let go and takes it badly, very badly."

Other cards were divided in their opinion of the Vault Ninja. "I would never have expected it of him, but he must have taken the rumors of banning in Extended next rotation to heart, and his mind snapped," said Arcbound Worker, an arcbound worker for WOTC Modular Division. "Nice guy. I enjoyed working with him and would never have seen this coming in a million years."

Auriok Champion disagrees. "He was already sending up red flags months ago, everyone complained about him and nobody would do anything about him. He was a loose cannon . . . I only have this to say: If the families of these poor cards sue Adrian Sullivan, it's his own fault. I'm only surprised it didn't happen sooner."

Sullivan could not be reached for comment. Grief counseling is being made available for all creatures and artifact creatures until Mirrodin Block rotates out of Standard.
