"Man Who Never Mised" Continues Impressive Losing Streak

NATICK, MA-- Local gamer Noel Eicher has amassed a mind-boggling 51 match losing streak in sanctioned Constructed play. The streak has been accumulated during the course of his last 23 Constructed tournaments, involving such formats as Invasion Block Constructed, Standard, Extended, and Classic.

Eicher's bad fortunes began in October of 2000 when he double mulliganed to begin the first game in the first round of a Pro Tour Qualifier in Boston. He then went on to finish 0-3 drop in that tournament, followed by an 0-2 finish the next week at Friday Night Magic, and a 0-4 finish at the PTQ the next day. He quickly rolled up a 17 match loss streak by the end of November. By December 2000, his record pace slowed, as he only lost 3 matches, all in the same Wednesday Standard tournament on December 13th. The pace picked up again in February of 2001, as he lost a mind-numbing 14 matches during that fateful month, en route to the record total of 51 as of November 14th.

When asked to explain his less-than-impressive performance, Eicher claimed he lost a total of 11 matches to self-professed "Mana Screw" or "Mana Flood," 3 matches to decklist errors or accumulated warnings, 8 matches to "Bad Matchups," and 2 matches to "Conceding to friends so they could make Top 8," despite the fact that Eicher was not in the same zip code as the Top 8 during the past year.

Local Mages were quick to offer reasons for the streak. "He (Eicher) always makes bundles of play errors: Everything from tapping lands wrong, to forgetting to pay upkeeps, to even forgetting to counter the burn spell that will kill him," commented Frank Sheldon of Cambridge. "He always makes excuses for why he loses, such as mana screw and the like, but it really makes you wonder after a while. Why the hell aren't his opponents getting mana screwed, ever? Or maybe they are, but he's just too feeble to take advantage of it. No matter how you slice it, he's total and utter shit."

Eicher's next chance to break his streak comes December 15th at a Pro Tour: Osaka qualifier at TJ's Collectibles in Milford, Mass. It remains to be seen whether he can leave the ranks of the 'Fucking Pathetic' and join those of the 'Unbelievably Awful.'
