Some Guy Finally Gets Feature Match

By: JC - November 19, 2001

Atlanta, GA -- At this weekend's Grand Prix Atlanta Joshua "X" Claytor, known popularly as "some guy", finally received the feature match he has been seeking since being snubbed in Minneapolis. "I was paired against four name players, and never once got a feature match, nor was my deck on the name players listing," wrote a then irate Claytor. "What do I have to do to get noticed?" Apparently, all Claytor had to do was write.

"After the whole 'Minneapolis fiasco,' I went to Wizards. At first, they were unreceptive, but soon they agreed to let me do some coverage, if I paid travel fees. And now, here I am, surrounded by people eagerly watching me as I write." Claytor, a self described "damn fine player, damn fine writer," covered a veritable battle of titans: Matt Ranks, former PTQ great, versus a girl, who plays magic.

Claytor’s first match report, while spirited, was laden with poor punctuation, grammatical follies, and a heinous overuse of the word "boneyard." Even so, Claytor described his brief trip to the Feature Match tables as "deeply gratifying." "I guess a lot of people didn’t expect to see me here. Well this just goes to show that with a little faith in yourself, you can do anything."

However, not all went as smoothly for "some guy." "I wasn't in any pictures! Not even in the background! How many matches do I have to cover before I prove I can run with Bennett and Buehler?"
